Black people inspire music, fashion, dance, etc. People of color are the backbone of pop culture as we know it. I am honestly honored to be a Black artist.

It is full of inspiring, beautiful and cultured people. So, I think that's a big part of her journey.Despite what other people think, the Black community is a blessing to be a part of. She loves him too much, just in general, to allow those kinds of feelings and him not loving her back that way get in her way. She's realizing that she loves him too much to let that get in the way.

And I just feel like that's super important to her story, like you said, because she's learning how to change the way she loves him. Can you talk about why that's important for Libby's journey?Īria Brooks: I think a lot of people are gonna relate to that, where they love someone one way, but they the other person doesn't feel the same way. But the ways in which they love each other are not necessarily the same. You talked a lot about love, Aria, and they do love each other a lot. But as she learns that she's a key element in his life, then they can really bond over that. But the great thing is that she doesn't think that she's that important to him before they actually met. And it's kind of like meeting a celebrity. She's just such an idol to him, and then he gets to meet his idol. But he'd heard about her, and he always kind of idolized her because she got what he could never have, which is to be in New York and to be on Broadway. Rueby Wood: Of course, when Nate first sees Aunt Heidi, he doesn't know her that well personally. Can you talk about developing that relationship over the course of the film? Because when we first meet her, you don't really know her all that well, and yet she becomes a crucial ingredient. © 2022 Disney Enterprises, Inc.Īnother character who is very important to Nate's journey is his aunt Heidi.

That's what she loves to do. She has it together, she has the organization - and that's kind of her thing, keeping things organized, keeping him grounded, and keeping him together. I think that's where her thrive-ness comes from. I feel like she truly thrives off seeing him thrive. And I feel like Nate is so important to Libby. Let's keep going." She's really that driving force in Nate's life, and it's really important.Īria Brooks: Yes, I agree. She will just immediately pick him back up and say, "It doesn't matter. He gets bullied at school, and whenever he's not feeling really good about his life or whatever it may be, he can just go to her. She just keeps his fire burning, and without that, I don't think he would be. Not only because she pushes him to go to New York to follow his dream, but just in life, because she is such an important friend to him. Rueby Wood: I think that without Libby, Nate would not have made it. What is it that you think each means to the other? What does Libby mean to Nate? I love the friendship between the two of you, because it's just so sweet and supportive.
It comes from a place of love, like I said, so I love her for that. Because she's just a very loving person.Īnd although she has this wit to her and spunk that's very comical at times, at the bottom of it all, it comes from a good place with her. Just love in general - loving Nate, loving herself - I think that was very inspirational, and that's what I really loved about her.
What was it that first spoke to you about Libby and the story of Better Nate Than Ever?Īria Brooks: Specifically, I think it's Libby's character and her ability to love. It's the best of both worlds, and I love it.Īria, on the other hand, you've been working in film and television for years now, and you seem very driven and focused on what you want.

I was really lucky to make the transition from theater to film and be in a movie that's about Broadway. I really think that bringing Nate to life was really just like living my dreams. I was introduced to theater at a really young age, and I love it so much.
I love Broadway so much I was lucky enough to be able to follow my dream.
